When it was incorporated more than a century ago, the city of Inglewood in south-central Los Angeles had a population of just a few hundred residents.

For those who’d rather not fight the traffic themselves, Inglewood and LA feature extensive public transportation networks. Some of the state’s most scenic beaches and showbiz attractions are just a few kilometers away.

1. The Forum

During the summer months, the heat in Inglewood can be downright oppressive.

Though outdoor attractions abound in the LA area, it’s always a good idea to have a few indoor options in your back pocket.

The forum is one of the area’s premier live entertainment venues; it’s located on West Manchester Boulevard in Inglewood.

The facility features seating for nearly 20,000. Throughout the year, it hosts big-name performers in a wide range of genres.

Tickets often go fast for the biggest shows, so check their website and buy yours early to avoid a heartbreaking sold-out situation.

2. Randy’s Donuts

Though they don’t typically rank highly on most visitors’ itineraries, donuts just happen to be one of Inglewood’s big draws – and it’s all because of Randy’s Donuts on West Manchester Boulevard.

Rumor has it that Randy’s is one of the world’s most famous donut shops. It’s hard to miss because there’s a huge fiberglass donut on the rooftop of its scenic downtown location.

Randy’s has figured prominently in movies, television shows, and music videos over the years, making cameo appearances in blockbuster hits like Iron Man and the video for ‘I Love LA’ by local singer Randy Newman.

3. California Science Center

For those looking for a world-class cup of coffee in a trendy local setting, there’s no beating Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen on La Brea Avenue in Inglewood.

Previous guests have noted that their drinks were light-years ahead of what’s served at the big national chain coffee houses. Their menu includes lots of tasty food items, like freshly-baked goods and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.

Non-coffee drinks are available, as are alternative sweeteners like agave nectar syrup.

5. Loyola Marymount University

Loyal Marymount University was recently voted as having one of the most beautiful campuses in the country, and it’s just two kilometers west of downtown Inglewood.

Inglewood’s Hawthorne Aquatic Center is located on Inglewood Avenue. It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours frolicking in the water and lounging in the shade when the Southern California sun is at its hottest.

Dulan’s owner began his career as a restaurateur in the ’70s with a burger joint in nearby Marina Del Rey before discovering the colossal demand for soul food among locals.

9. Westchester Golf Course

At just a tick over 4,300 yards, Westchester Golf Course is about 1/3 shorter than most traditional 18-hole courses, making it a perfect fit for golfers looking to squeeze in a full round without spending four or five hours on the course.

For those looking for a museum with its own unique niche that hasn’t been done to death, visiting the Wende Museum in Culver City would be a great way to spend a few hours.

Its collection comprises tens of thousands of items relating to the Cold War-era and the former Soviet Union and its satellite countries, including Poland, Romania, and Hungary.

The museum is just a few blocks from the aforementioned Sony Pictures Studio in Culvers City, so consider hitting them both in the same day.
