22, 1986, in Seamanship course scheduled A class in boating safety and seamanship will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at John A. Logan College. It's sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Registration may be made at the class. There is no fee but there will be a nominal charge for the instructional booklet. The class will cover such things as legal requirements, equipment necessary to pass a boating safety inspection, emergency engineer repairs and navigational rules. Stress workshops presented A five-week series of workshops on stress management will be presented beginning today at First Federal Savings and Loan, 500 W. Main, Carbondale.

Attucks schedules public forum The Attucks Community Service Board, in cooperation with the NAACP, the Community Human Service Center and Concerned Parents of Carbondale, will sponsor a "Platform Persuasion Public Forum" program at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Eurma C. Hayes Center Auditorium. Local mayoral and city council candidates have been invited to present their platforms to the community.

The Carbondale Elementary School District referendum also will be presented. James Evans Young METROPOLIS Services for James Evans Young, 74, of Route 3 will be at 1 p.m. today in the Hosick-Cox Funeral Home, Rosiclare, with burial in the Adams Cemetery, rural Hardin County. Graveside military rites will be conducted. Mr.

Young died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 1937, in Western Baptist Hospital, Paducah. He was a retired school teacher who had taught in rural Hardin County, Rosiclare, Carmi and at East Alton-Wood River High School. He had also taught in the Industrial Arts Department at Southern Illinois University during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

He retired from a college in St. Louis where he had been director of the industrial arts department. Mr. Young was a disabled World War II veteran. He became a prisoner of war Nov.

7, 1944. He was born July 31, 1912, in rural Hardin County to Virgil and Janie Oxford Young. He married Lola Foster, who survives. Other survivors include one son, Douglas W. Young, Harrisburg; one daughter, Shirle Foster Stokes, De Ridder, one brother, B.O.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Du Quoin Elks Lodge 884, and the American Legion Roy Mitchell Post 647. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was born Jan.

17, 1916, in Du Quoin to John A. and Polly Ferguson Moore. He married Evelyn Ruth Johnson on March 31, 1941, in Du Quoin. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Thomas H.

Moore Chino, and David M. Moore, Glendale, three sisters, Golda Ford, Dowell, Pauline Taylor, Du Quoin, and Pat Schroeder, Missouri; one brother, Paul Moore, Du Quoin; and three grandchildren. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Charles Edgar Smith BENTON Services for Charles Edgar Smith, 46, of Route 3, will be at 2 p.m. today in Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher.

Friends may call until the time of service. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. Mr. Smith died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1937, in Benton.

He was a truck driver for Frank Russell and Son, West Frankfort. His memberships included Teamsters Local 347, the Christopher Eagles Club and the First Baptist Church in Christopher. He was born July 24, 1940, in West Frankfort to Roy D. and Doris Learned Smith. He married Patricia Ann Presley, who survives.

Hall, 62, of Pacific, formerly of Thompsonville, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1987, in St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. Mr.

Hall had worked for Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, Mo. He was of the Baptist faith. He was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Thompsonville to Roy and Jessie Hall. Survivors include his wife, Ann; a daughter, Carolyn Sullivan of Zei-gler; two sons, Bobby of Gray Summit, and David of Pacific; nine grandchildren; his stepmother, Marie Hall of Thompsonville; two brothers, Les and Clovis Hall of Thompsonville; and two sisters, Eutha Miller of Thompsonville and Ramona Bozarth of Monroe, La.

Harold Raymond Vuichard PINCKNEYVILLE The funeral for Harold Raymond Vuichard, 74, of Fort Myers, formerly of Pinck-neyville, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the St. Bruno Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. 15, 1937, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Olmstead. An Army veteran of World War II, he also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 8891. Mr.

Witzman was born April 4, 1926, in Olmstead to Otto George and Louise Weidner Witzman. Survivors include two brothers, Warner Witzman of rural Olmstead and his twin, Harold William Witzman, Olive Branch; two sisters, Mary Louise Kreitner, Port Richey, and Edna Lowe, Silver Spring, New; and several nieces and nephews. She was born April 19, 1938, in Oakland, to John and Florence Johnson Myers. She married E.L. Eudy, a former Jonesboro resident, on Nov. 18, 1956, in San Leandro, Calif. He survives.

and Emma Josephine Treece Baggott. 27, 1892, in Union County to Thomas Jefferson Leyerle and Mary M. Freeze Leyer-le. She married F.M. Holshouser on Sept. 10, 1913.

He died April 6, 1975. Survivors include one brother, Roy Leyerle, Oceanside, one grandson, five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Magdalene E. Whiteside, Jan. 24, 1957, and one son, Jack Holshouser, Aug.

Mrs. Krone died at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 1987, in Southgate Care Center, Mehlville, Mo. She was a member of the Bear Point Freewill Baptist Church, Sesser.

She was born Nov. 14, 1903, in Franklin County to Henry Schroeder and Lula co*ckrum Schroeder. She married Emil Krone, who died Nov. 9, 1983. Survivors include one son, Gerald Krone, Mehlville, two sisters, Flo Farris and Cloe Perrine, both of Sesser; and one grandson.

Her parents also preceded her in death. Minnie White RALEIGH Minnie White, 78, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 1937, at home. Mrs.

White was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Saline County to Charles and Emma Sloan Karnes. She married Al White. Survivors include one daughter, Rose Mary McCarn, Bloomington, three sisters, Ruby Buck Farner, Raleigh, Emma Jane Schaaf, St. Louis, and Flossie Doo-ley, Alton; one brother, Cloyd Karnes, Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Sloan Funeral Home, Galatia, with burial in the Bethel Creek Cemetery, rural Raleigh. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wednesday at the funeral home. Ira A. Dare CHRISTOPHER Ira A. Dare, 85, of 105 Solomon died Monday, Feb. 16.

1987, in Pinckneyville Community Hospital. Mr. Dare was a retired coal miner. He was born Aug. 24, 1901, in Mur-physboro to Mr.

and Mrs. Thomas Dare. He married Mabel Phillips, who survives. Other survivors include three sons. Henry Dare Jr.

"We saw the car out there and a woman in it," Mrs. Clark added. "I don't know whether she was trying to get her seat belt off or trying to unlock the door. I just saw a lot of movement." Three people went into the water in their street clothes to try to get the doors open. Virgil E.

Mrs. Schoonover died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1987, in Westland, Mich. She was a homemaker. She was born Oct.

9, 1908, in Herrin to C.E. and Mae Ingraham. Her father was elected in 1900 as the first mayor of the city of Herrin. She married Charles Schoonover June 4, 1932, in Detroit. He survives.
