Abstract

During the age of the Grand Tour, the salons held by women of the aristocracy were one of the attractions for travelers in Rome. The Roman salon was the meeting point of female aspirations and the aspirations of emerging intellectual classes. This chapter discusses this female practice in Rome and examines case studies to investigate the role of women in cultural change at the end of the eighteenth century.
