MCAD has been an overall satisfactory experience. I’ve learned a lot and improved my artwork much more than I would have studying independently.

This is a good school overall, but if you are disabled, they don't care about you. Their accomidations system is terrible, they have one accessible building for housing for students and it is off campus across a busy street with no handicapped buttons as well as an almost inaccessible campus entirely.
The students are nice, less drama, not too loud and outragous; the people are what is keeping me here. The professors are nice if you know who to go for, ask upperclassman about who you should try to get, overall I am learning, and I am enjoying the work I am creating and the classes I am in.
Have patience with this school, the bistro staff, and professors; but don't allow them to push you around, especially if you are a disabled student.

MCAD is super welcoming and friendly, i made friends my first day here! Every class is a little family:) The location is perfect in my opinion, being close to eat-street & only a 30 min walk to downtown.

Overall MCAD is expensive, but pretty good overall. Housing on campus is more expensive than a similar situation off campus, but is required for your first two years. The campus food has gotten worse since last year, but even though it's gotten better of the course of this year, there are still a lot of people that have gotten food poisoning. They also over doubled the minimum required meal plan from last year, and any money you don't spend goes right back to the school. The monthly minimum is now the same as the total I spent last semester. They also really dislike giving out exemptions to the meal plan, and several people WITH MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION had to fight the school for MONTHS to get it waived.

My only complaints are how expensive the art supplies can be and the bistro food. Teachers are (almost always) very nice and approachable. Though I've had at least one sour teacher so far, it did not detract from my enjoyment. I am excited to continue my education here!

I really enjoy the school, it’s small so the community is close knit and most people are pretty kind. The dorms are amazing and most of the teachers are amazing and accommodating. Recently the bureaucracy side of the school has been going downhill, and it’s becoming a bit harder to afford things here. It seems like a lot of policy decisions are out of touch and nickel-and-diming.

The faculty is fantastic and the curriculum is challenging and worthwhile to learn from.
The accommodations could be better but I am grateful for the ones that there are available for the students to make it possible.

Learned so much, would recommend it! I studied photography and have since had wonderful opportunities because of my association with MCAD.

The professors there are the most positive influence on students, I believe. They practice the careers they teach, and aren't afraid to talk about the distasteful parts of their professions as well as give advice. I feel this hands on experience they have really prepare students for the future, and they know what they are getting into. And there are many programs that are mandatory for you to get your work out there and start connecting with clients and people who are already professionals in the field. I do wish that the way MCAD runs its websites would be updated, the inefficiency has really set me and many others back a few times. Overall, MCAD is a good challenge for students who want a taste of the real world.

As a trans, latino, and first generation college student this University guided me in the right direction. My goals don’t feel impossible to reach. I’ve been given many opportunities and have taken every single one. I was able to accept a work study as a receptionist Spring semester. This Fall semester I’ll be guiding students as a peer mentor, and working as casual labor in my previous work study as a receptionist. I’m beyond ecstatic to be apart of this University and I’m restless to see where it’ll take me.

My experience at the Minneapolis college of art and design was a very comfortable and understanding experience that I recommended that every freshman would love to experience. Most of the classes are open to all students to help students adventure their journey through art and different medias which is something I love. I was able to learn how to build things out of metal and wood. I was able to grow my love for film making as well as creating new pieces that I would have never thought I could do. Even though the community and school itself is great, I would have to say it could be unprofessional at some times when times gets stressful. Another point is that some professors could make you feel uncomfortable and down for your art ability but most of my professors are very kind and became my friends instead of strangers. I would say, be open to try new things, keep yourself being adventurous and creative because that’s what MCAD is all about.

When I attended a recruitment event at MCAD, I was told the school helps students find internships and job placements. I know Covid messed a lot of things up for everyone, but I believed the career center would help me.
They did not.
I found a decent internship on my own that met the school requirements, but after I graduated, remotely, it was like they were done with me. I even lived in the area after graduation and went back to campus for job search assistance. All I was told was my resume looked good and to look for jobs on the websites I was already using. I still haven't found full-time employment in my major -- or even my degree.
I was excited for everything I was told MCAD would be. The pandemic lockdown stole nearly two years of my college experience. The lack of support for new graduates took the rest. I appreciate many of my professors for their instruction and guidance, but those who are tasked with helping students navigate the practicalities of college life failed.

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design is a phenomenal environment for creatives of all ages and backgrounds to learn, hone their skills, and find their own unique identity as an artist. The professors and instructors of this school have a deep commitment to helping students and providing individual personal guidance to allow each of us to follow our dreams. In terms of the institution itself, many feel that the current leadership is blind to the needs of its constituents. With too much focus on profits rather than progress, health, and care. I would happily endorse this school for anyone seeking to further their skills or understanding of themselves and their creative pursuits.

I am an incoming freshman at MCAD and I've been very impressed so far with the majors and campus overall. I love the apartment style on-campus living for all ages, the campus is walking distance from convenient stores and food places, there's free shuttles to take students from place to place, a café with delicious food, and more. The school also offers many scholarships and work study options for their students as well. Only thing I wish I could change would be the diversity, although that doesn't have much to do with the institution.

Somewhat overpriced but the professors know what they're talking about. I would recommend this school if you're considering animation as all the professors I've met have been very knowledgeable.

So far, my experience at the college is well. There are a few things, such as one or two teachers, that need to be better at teaching. Otherwise, I've been having a good time here learning about different mediums.
The buildings are open to students 24/7 so there is no stress for doing homework at certain times of the day. There are plenty of clubs to get involved in. So far the workload isn't much, but I know some students are stressed about it.
Overall, this year has been good and I would recommend Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

I am enjoying my time and learning a lot from mcad! When I first started I was able to get the laptop scholarship which helped a lot. Ive been able to get the fundamentals out of the way any try new things! There was a snag thanks to Covid but from what I’ve seen, mcad was able to handle sudden online learning fairly well, I can speak for other majors though. The transition back to in school learning has been smooth as well all things considering. The staff and teachers do a lot to help students learn and feel comfortable.

This school is a great way to better yourself as an artist. The neighborhood is a little shady but the 24/7 campus security and the card locks on the doors help me feel a little safer. It would be a good idea to bring pepper spray in case you decide to walk around eat street and always bring someone to walk with.

I am a incoming student for fall 2022 and so far my experience with them has been amazing from their amazing admission counselors that helped me with the application process to their admitted students day in April that was so insightful. I am going into the Animation major in the fall and I am very excited to see where it will take me. They have an amazing list that you get provided once you are admitted that takes you step by step on what needs to be submitted on what date to insure no one get left behind on things like financial aid and housing.

Mcad has great teachers for the most part. There are a few that can really ruin your week. Rate my Professor is not used much for MCAD teachers which can make it hard to avoid unpleassant teachers. The equipment you have access to is very impressive. The cafe food is not great and definitely over priced. Campus is small and you can't get very far without a car. If you are looking for a good party/social scene look elsewhere, especially if you are older. I came in as a transfer, age 25, and I have never been so aware of my age. I was honestly shocked at how immature the 18-year-olds were. If you do decide to go to MCAD I cannot stress enough that you should take Funding for Creative Ventures. It was the most useful class I took. No matter what your major Jovan will teach you how to secure funding for your future projects via grants, fellowships, or donors. You will also learn a lot about general finnances for creative people.
